Soccer Toe

Turf toe is a common injury in sports, which occurs when the big toe is hyperextended. Soccer toe on the other hand is a term I just made up in order to describe an injury that is common to soccer players that kick with the inside part of their foot and suffer a ligament injury.

Soccer toe is thus a traumatic injury, which closely resembles a bunion, which is an overuse injury commonly seen in dancers.

Lesson: Returning to running is quicker with soccer toe vs turf toe, but return to kicking with the medial aspect of the foot may be prolonged. Toe spacers can be used at first to allow approximation of the injured ligament and proper healing to occur
